Chiropractic Adjustment
A specific, controlled force applied to vertebrae that are misaligned or moving abnormally, to take interference out of the nervous system.
Chapter 01
What the adjustment actually is
A chiropractic adjustment is the specific force a chiropractor applies to vertebrae that are misaligned or have abnormal movement patterns. It is not a general rub or a stretch. It is aimed at one joint at a time.
The purpose is to remove interference in the nervous system caused by subluxations, the term for those misalignments. Dr. Matt finds the joint that is not moving the way it should and applies force directly to it.

The sound is not the point
An adjustment is a quick, controlled thrust. It is sometimes followed by an audible release, a sound caused by oxygen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide leaving the joint capsule. Patients often call it a pop or a crack.
That sound, called cavitation, does not always happen, and it is not what makes the adjustment work. A joint can be adjusted successfully with no sound at all. The result comes from the correction, not the noise.
Chapter 03
How the technique gets chosen
This office uses manual adjusting, the Activator instrument, a drop table and other methods, and picks the one that suits the patient rather than running everyone through the same technique.
A patient who cannot tolerate a manual thrust, an older patient, or a smaller frame, gets a gentler tool like the Activator. Someone who responds well to a manual adjustment stays on that path. The joint and the person decide the method, not a fixed routine.
What this office does not do
No X-rays are taken on site. When imaging is needed to understand what is going on with a spine or a joint, Alpha Chiropractic refers the patient out for it rather than guessing.
That keeps the visit focused on hands-on assessment and adjustment, with imaging brought in only when it is genuinely needed for the next decision.
